Kimiko Shiro

Kimiko Shiro was born and raised in the Bay Area. Her art is influenced by her passions; nature, climate change and social justice. She has been deeply inspired by visual forms of storytelling such as movies, graphic novels, and picture books.
Studying art at College of Marin exposed Kimiko to multiple mediums including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, pottery, and metalworking. The various disciplines helped her explore and focus on different ways to convey enthralling visuals.
Kimiko believes art has the potential to bring people together and inspire others. With each medium, she has a desire to put some sort of story behind each piece. It doesn’t always have to be grand or conceptual. Everything in the world has lived a life and has its own story to tell. From the largest sequoia to the smallest bee, Kimiko wants to create pieces that share those stories.
Being a fifth generation Japanese-American, Kimiko is greatly influenced by japanese aesthetics and art which is most apparent in her pottery and jewelry making. She takes inspiration from her cultural roots and makes it her own.
She hopes her art will help bring light upon problems and morals that she believes are important to people in their everyday lives. View more of Kimiko’s work here.
