I have always been interested in both the arts and sciences, and discovered a particular passion for science illustration while working on my BFA. I’ve found extinct animals to be some of the most particularly compelling subject matter; these are creatures we will never see alive again, so our only way to visualize how they may have lived is through art. Paleoart gives us windows into ancient ecosystems we would never otherwise experience, letting us connect with the Earth through all its long and storied history. Well-informed science illustration lets us understand truths about the world that we cannot so easily see for ourselves. It is a powerful tool for science education, and in this modern age of climate change and mass extinction, we need good science education more than ever.
