Marie Siegenthaler Memorial Lending Library established at College of Marin

We are so pleased to announce that the College of Marin Fine Arts faculty has chosen “The Marie Siegenthaler Memorial Lending Library” as the name for the art supplies lending library that Tentacles & Wings raised funds for this past spring. The supplies for the lending library have been purchased, cataloged and stowed in preparation for student use. According to ceramics instructors Logan Wood and Jason Dunn the ceramics tools will be available for every student to use during class and then will be put away again once class is over. This will ensure that tools are available for every student who needs them without having to request them. According to Logan and Jason “Marie’s lending library creates a new degree of accessibility for all of our students that is unprecedented. We are very grateful to start off this semester, after the pandemic last year, alleviating the financial strain for students of having to purchase their own tools.

We are delighted to be able to celebrate Marie’s legacy in this way”

The tools for Basic Drawing and Composition are also ready for student use. These classes will use a more traditional lending library approach, with students checking out the tools for the semester and returning them when the semester concludes. Fine Arts faculty Craig Coss, Chris West, Barbara Gloistein, and Daria Sywulak have cataloged, labeled and prepared a variety of supplies from pencil sharpeners to art portfolios. Students will be able to borrow the items they need to fill out their supply kits and then return them when the semester is over.

The Fine Arts dept is tremendously excited about the establishment of the lending library. The hope is that students will feel a more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in art classes and really feel that this is a place to which they belong. For one beginning art student pursuing a career in art therapy, the lending library has been a huge financial help to assist her with keeping within her budget.

We continue to be grateful to our donors who made this all possible. We would also like to give a shout out to Rileystreet Art Supplies on Fourth Street in Downtown San Rafael. The manager, Alejandra Tamayo, helped support our vision by offering the best prices available on all the supplies for the lending library. If you happen to go by there be sure to tell Alejandra how much you appreciate their support! If you would like to support the work of Tentacles & Wings please visit our website.
