So much of our experience in this world is a combination of visual, sensual, and abstract experiences. There are moments of wonder between those seconds of processing, when attempts to grasp meaning help us to settle ourselves in our larger environment. For me, art has been a provider of identity and clarity to move through life, and science and the natural world is an important counterpart to that journey. In this way, nurturing my connection with the environment brings some peace while living in a thickly urban setting.

Much as art can be both a balm and catalyst to the human condition, I believe science and an understanding of the world around us can help place our identities in a larger world. This is what I am chasing by entering the Science Illustration Program at CSUMB, and I am thrilled that I will be able to immerse myself in this world both new and familiar.
